SHALICRETE

POLYMER MODIFIED CEMENTITIOUS WATER PROOF COATING

DESCREPTION
Shalicrete is an acrylic reinforced copolymer developed for making an inexpensive water proof coating Shalicrete complements cement and over comes its short comings. Shalicrete when admixed with cement imparts flexibility thereby overcoming the fragility of thin cement coatings, better bonding with various construction materials and imparts better impact and compression strength. It also imparts better chemical resistance, to carbonation salts and atmospherics gases.

USES
  • As a waterproof coating for roofs, water proof lining for water retaining structures, for sealing & coating tie bar holes of tie bars in water retaining structure to ensure water tightness
  • Water proof coating for roofs, basements, water tanks, swimming pools, balconies and also foundation protection
  • As a backing to marble and granite, prevent water ingression.
  • To provide protection to concrete surfaces from carbonation and chloride attack. To protect foundation from corrosion
ADVANTAGES
  • Non-toxic suitable for contact with potable water.
  • Reduce salts penetration in to concrete and masonry
  • UV resistant, breathable whilst repelling water, allows substrate to breath, thus preventing peeling and blister formation
  • Shalicrete coating has outstanding wear and weather resistance, resistance to carbonation and good resistance to petrol, diesel caustic and salts coated surfaces also exhibit good resistance to mild acids.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

SURFACE PRE PRATION
Surface preparation is of utmost importance. All grease, oil dust residual curing compound, shuttering oil, or other contaminant the could impair adhesion should be removed. All construction joints and cracks on the surface apparent honey combed areas should be tested separately and if any leakage are found the same should be opened up in to a V- Groove and sealed with suitable grouts/ sealants. This should be followed by broom application of cement slurry admixed with an integral water proofing compound and then immediately followed by application of smoothing plaster in 1: 3 cement mortar, up to 10mm thick (admixed with integral water proofing compound) applied for filling minor depressions before application of the coating.

MIXING
*For coating application: - Slowly add 2 parts of cement by weight to 1 part of shalicrete polymer (which is equivalent to mixing 1.5 parts of cement by volume to 1 part of Shalicrete polymer by volume) and mix.  Keep mixing during application, Do not re temper with water. Do not mix more material than can be used in half an hour
*For with fine membrane application : Slowly add 1 part of fine clean silica sand (70-200 mesh) to 1 part of Shalicrete by weight and mix with a mechanical mixer a slow speed until a lump free paste is formed. Now slowly add 2 parts of cement by weight of Shalicrete and mix thoroughly with a mechanical mixer at slow speed for 2-3 min to achieve a lump free consistent mix.  Mix water up to 5% by wt. of polymer. If required depending on the temperature and humidity conditions keep mixing during application. Do not re temper with water. Do not mix more material than can be used in 20 min.

APPLICATION

DO NOT APPLY TO DRY CONCRETE
Saturate the prepared concrete surfaces with clean water. Remove any standing water; apply one coat of the coating/ membrane application, Spread fine aggregate on the coating / membrane whilst it is still tacky, to ensure bond between the coating / membrane and the protective plaster.

CURING
The coating / membrane should be air cured for the first 2-6 hrs, depending on the ambient conditions. The coating should not be exposed to strong breeze, high temperature or rain, during this period, then moist cure, but without pounding. For 1 day followed by air curing for 3 days before the coating is put to use.

PROTECTION
The coating must be protected by a plaster / screed in trafficable areas or in areas which are to be overlaid like in sunken toilets. Do not allow traffic on the coating for 48 hrs after application.

COVERAGE
0.26 kg Shalicrete polymer / sqm 1st coat application. (Use 0.625 liters of the shalicrete cement slurry mix to cover 1 sqm area for the 1st coat (Use 0.5 kg cement). Thin with water up to 5% if required based on the ambient temperature and humidity conditions. 0.14 kg Shalicrete polymer / sqm for the IInd coat (Use half of above proportions as indicated for first coat. 0.60 kg Shalicrete for 0.7 mm thick with fines membrane.

PACKAGING
Shalicrete is supplied in 40 kg cans and 220kg nett wt drums
